Mac's Church Adventures

Today Mac and I went to church for the first time in town here. I had always planned to take him to church but for one reason or another (excuse) we had never gone. Last night I decided that regardless of anything we were going to church today. He had been to my brother's church in Edmonton before when he was 7 months old, but this was the first time we went here. We decided to check out the First Baptist Church here in town.

I was a little worried because the service didn't start until 10:30 and that was pretty much exactly when he was due to go down for a nap. I had packed a bottle, some snacks and of course, his trusty giraffe buddy that he doesn't do anything without. We got there about ten minutes prior to the service starting. One of the first people we bumped into was the doctor that delivered Mac and performed my c-section!! We also talked to one of me fathers co-workers who attends that church as well.

The worship portion of the service began and it was so nice. They had a pianist, a drummer, a guitarist and a keyboard player as well as four singers leading this time. It had been so long since I'd had a chance to enjoy this that I teared up a little. Mac LOVED the singing time. He was fascinated by the drums.

They were having sort of a missionary report today by a group called Teen Challenge. There were five men in there thirties who all spoke about how God helped them overcome various adictions (drugs, alcohol etc). It was very moving.

We ended up leaving a few minutes before the end of the service because by this time Mac had burned through his bottle, all the treats I had brought and was starting to get VERY whiney. I definately want to go back next week. Hopefully as Mac gets used to it, he'll be able to sit down and play for a bit longer. It would have been nice to be able to stay and chat afterwards but just being able to attend the service made it worth it.
